Death
The Death Card is not death literally. It is death in the sense of something you need to let go of so that something new can be born.
This could be a relationship, a job, or a commitment that no longer serves its purpose to you or your spirit. You need to move on to a new phase of your existence on this earth. This may seem hard if what no longer serves your purpose is a skill or thing you have loved and filled you with happiness.
When I started scuba diving, I was mesmerized by the underwater world and the life shown to me. When I gave up scuba, a valued instructor friend of mine told me that even you I was stopping the activity, I had seen and experienced things most people do not. He was right, and I was grateful.
In that gratitude, I was so aware of the fact that life was moving on and new things and people were coming in to my life that would be equally exciting but differently.
A Shaman knows that when we move from one phase of existence to the next, there is a transfer of knowledge, skills, and wisdom from one to the next. Discard nothing of what you have learned before from the new world you are moving in to. In the end, your life will be a sum of all the activities, knowledge, and experience you have gained through your time in this world.
Fools Embrace
The Fool’s Embrace is closely entwined with the Death Card and the fact it appears now is a good, not a bad omen.
As the Death card speaks to our journey into a new phase of our existence, the Fool’s Embrace speaks to the disappointment and pain from the life we are leaving and the need to surrender what is not working for us.
As we move from one day to the next, one year to the next, we need to learn that we do not need to carry with us the hurts and pains of previous experiences. It is OK to leave them behind. Leave them behind, now! Look at what you have left behind and learn from your actions.
The Fool in this card is at the start of a new phase of your life and the fresh adventures you will experience and learn from and, at the end, when you look back at what you have learned. In being there, he will never let you down and never betray you. Be prepared to grow and change in the next phase of your life.
These two cards complement each other. Look at both and take comfort from both and look forward.
