Focused Meditation

Many people assume that the goal of meditation is to achieve a thought-free, clear mind. However, many common forms of meditation actually involve the opposite. Focused meditation, for example, involves focusing intently on a certain sound, image, sensation or other object of attention.[1]

Focused meditation can be a lot less daunting than some other forms, especially if you use a concrete physical object to focus on. You can use this object as an anchor, drawing you back into the present moment even as your thoughts try to pull you away.[2]

This method of meditation is open-ended in the sense that there is no prescribed posture or object of focus. You can adapt it to meet your own needs. This is also useful because it can be done in a variety of settings. You can choose almost anything to meditate upon, including the waves of a river, a nearby tree, or your own hand. Wherever you are, you can sit and do a focused meditation.[3]

Focused meditation involves concentration using any or all of the five senses.

For example, you can focus on something internal, like your breath, or you can bring in external influences to help focus your attention.[4]

Examples include:

·       Counting mala beads[5]

·       Listening to a gong

·       Staring at a candle flame

·       Counting your breaths

·       Moon gazing

This practice may be simple in theory, but it can be difficult for beginners to hold their focus for longer than a few minutes at first.

Alkaline Water and Hydration

Hydration is one of the risk factors for Diabetics. Hydration flushes out the Kidneys and reduces potential damage to them from high Blood Glucose levels.

On of the Life Stye Changes my doctor wanted to make after diagnosing me was to ensure I had 3 litres of water per day. As someone ho has also suffered from legs cramps at night, the following hydration tips is very key to your continued health.

How many people do you know who say they don’t want to drink water before bed because they have to get up during the night because of it?

Answer from a cardiologist:

When you stand, gravity keeps water in the lower part of your body, causing swelling in your legs.

When you lie down and the lower part of your body is at the level of the kidneys, the kidneys remove fluids because the body is more comfortable in a horizontal position.

The body needs a certain minimum amount of water to eliminate toxins from the body.

Drinking water is also very important.

Drinking water at certain times maximizes its impact on the body’s function:

– 2 glasses of water after waking up – helps activate internal organs

– 1 glass of water 30 minutes before a meal – aids digestion

– 1 glass of water before bathing – helps lower blood pressure (did anyone know this?)

– 1 glass of water before bed – prevents stroke or heart attack (good to know!)

Additionally, water before bed also helps prevent nighttime leg cramps.

Leg muscles need fluid because they contract, and due to a lack of it, they wake up with muscle spasms.

The cardiologist said that if everyone sends this message to 10 people, it is possible to help many people.
